Bats 101 – Unlikely heroes with a global impact.

Bats have been on Earth for more than 50 million years, and with more than 1,400 species, they’re the second largest order of mammals. Bats provide vital services in the form of insect pest consumption, plant pollination (no margaritas without bats to pollinate those Agave plants!), and seed dispersal, making them essential to the health of global ecosystems. Today, bats are under unprecedented threat from habitat destruction, hunting, accelerated climate change, invasive species, and other stresses. Without concerted international action, their populations will continue to fall, driving many species to extinction.
